Gobbler Gathering 2013

The Evansville Rescue Mission experienced a record-setting year in 2013 and our Gobbler Gathering (which took place on Tuesday, November 26, 2013) was no different.  With the addition of the Mission’s annual Drumstick Dash run/walk three days prior, we are able to accomplish the following highlights due to the overwhelming support of the Tri-State:

  • Nearly 1,500 Tri-State families were able to receive a Thanksgiving food basket.
  • Nearly 400 grocery sacks of Thanksgiving food were delivered to neighboring downtown Evansville apartment communities: Buckner & Kennedy Towers, Liberty Terrace Apartments and Horizon Homes Apartments.
  • More than 60,000 food items were collected by more than 200 local schools, churches, businesses, civic clubs, families and individuals.  To view a list of 2013 Gobbler Givers, click here.
  • More than 75,000 pounds of food were distributed–that’s more than 37 tons of food!  And we had enough food to distribute to families who were unable to attend the Gobbler Gathering.
  • More than 700 volunteers lent a helping hand to partner with the Rescue Mission to assist our food basket recipients to ensure that everyone had an enjoyable experience.

We are excited to know that the Gobbler Gathering has made a tremendous impact on the lives of the less fortunate here in the Tri-State.  The Rescue Mission has just received notification that the Gobbler Gathering has been nominated for outstanding Neighborhood/Community Project in Leadership Evansville’s 2014 Celebration of Leadership.  The awards ceremony is set for Tuesday, March 18, 2014 so stay tuned for award results.

Volunteers

Meanwhile, does the Gobbler Gathering sound like something you, your family, your business, your church or group want to be part of?  Then, save the date for this year’s Gobbler Gathering, which will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Evansville Rescue Mission’s headquarters (500 East Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47713).  As usual, we will need plenty of food as well as volunteers to make the 2014 Gobbler Gathering the best one yet.
