Meet Dan

“The hole in my heart has been filled.”

By all outward appearances, Dan had lived a full life: a loving marriage, three beautiful children, a comfortable home, and a job that allowed him to support his family. Yet, while he was thankful for his blessings, he’d always felt something missing inside.

Now at age 57, his wife was gone… his children were grown… and the emptiness in his heart was growing more painful and intense. Finally he surrendered to what he’d known all along. “I needed God in my life,” he says.

Dan had driven by the Mission many times in the past, without much thought about what went on inside. But now it caught his attention and beckoned him to our door.

“I thought to myself, ‘I need to go in there and see just what they do.”

Still recovering from a recent stroke – and struggling to survive on disability – Dan was grateful to learn we could help him physically, as well as spiritually. In addition to receiving food, shelter, and assistance with daily needs, he also joined our program called P.A.C.E.S (Purpose, Accountability, Christ, Education, and Service). Through this long-term, faith-based curriculum, his longing to know the Lord is being fulfilled through Bible study, Christian fellowship and worship.

“God’s Word is just wonderful,” he says. “The closer I get to Him, it’s like a light shining down that’s warm and soothing.”
As he regains his strength and prepares to return to a place of his own, he’s also found a new purpose for life – sharing God’s love with others, including his adult children. Today the void in his heart he endured for so long has finally been filled.

As Dan celebrates this Thanksgiving, he feels incredibly thankful for your compassion and support – and how it’s given him a fresh start in life. “I think that the Mission is truly there to save people. I feel a wholeness inside of me now.”
